Meet one-on-one with Joanna, owner and founder of The Op Shop, to discuss your individual needs. She is available for private shopping appointments at The Op Shop, consultations about your current wardrobe, and style coaching with an emphasis on sustainable, slow fashion.

Joanna Carroll was born in a suburb of New Jersey where arts and culture was always something she strove to find within her immediate community. Living 45-minutes outside of NYC she knew the potential out there. She worked privately in the arts throughout grade school, taking lessons outside of school and teaching herself Photoshop and photography. With encouragement from her family, she decided to study Arts & Design at SUNY College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

Joanna’s love for the arts was always coupled with a social activist edge, so when she was introduced to thrifting for vintage by her older sister, Justine (owner of @astral.vintage), she quickly fell in love with styling and sharing the potential in already made materials. Vintage brought to her lifestyle; agency in defining her own style through thrifting, a sense of originality with the unique finds she would acquire, and a sustainable consciousness.

Joanna believes most vintage, 20 years or older that has stood the test of time, has a charm to it that is found in today’s high-end fashion trends and can easily translate into a new, chic look.

Meet Hannah, seamstress and up-cycler for The Op Shop!

Hannah Dorpfeld is a self-taught sewer. At age eight, she was making charitable teddy bears for Buffalo Children’s Hospital. Throughout grade school, her mother taught her the art of upcycling thrifted finds from Salvation Army. Finally, after some encouragement from a seamstress from her hometown, Medina, she studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC.

Hannah studied pattern-making, draping, sewing and styling at FIT before transferring to Cornell University to finish her degree in Design and Environmental Analysis. Never straying too far from fabrics and fibers, she would find herself screen printing t-shirts, thrifting source materials, and making the occasional evening dress. Structured silhouettes are her first love, and silk is her second. Hannah believes nothing is too hard to recreate, alter, or sew and that everything can have a new purpose and second life.
