The Op Shop is located downtown Rochester, New York, in a turn-of-the-century house at 89 Charlotte Street. At first, the own and founder, Jo Carroll, had a pop-up retail shop on the second floor of what was a hair salon, with the hope of growing into a collective of vintage sellers under one roof. An opportunity shop of sorts.
Jo envisioned a space with multiple vintage sellers, sharing the sense of camaraderie she felt initially when thrifting for vintage clothes with her sisters at the young age of 15.
By May 2019, The Op grew to 15 local vendors and outgrew the space. A year and a half in, Jo expanded the shop space to encompass the whole house, and today has a collective, consignment model that incorporates a curation of communal soft goods; vintage clothes, accessories and jewels, that never left too far from their home of Rochester, New York.
